He was predeceased by: his wife Helen M. Monroe (Sweeney); his parents, John J. Monroe and Gertrude Monroe (Blanchard); and his son Mark L. Monroe. He is survived by: his children, J. Wayne Monroe (Dimitria) of Lincoln and Beverly A. Petrella (John) of Warwick; his brothers, Thomas Monroe of Anchorage, AL and Lee Monroe of Moorehead, MN; and his grandchildren, Kimberly Clarke, Kenneth Phillips, Megan Monroe and Bridget Phillips. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, his burial in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery will be private.
