He was predeceased by: his son Walter III; his parents, Walter Thayer and Esther Thayer; and his siblings, Nancy Thayer Meehan, Marilyn Thayer Cote, Alan and Dale Thayer.
He is survived by: his daughter Ida-Marie Thayer Jonsen (Eric); his grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Jeremy, Michelle and Walter; his great grandchildren, Walter, Jack and Theo; his son Peter; his daughter-in-law Elizabeth; his daughter Coral; his sister Barbara Thayer Monaghan; and his brother-in-law David. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
