He was predeceased by : his parents, Jeremiah Murphy and Catherine Murphy (Healy); and his close friend Dr. Kenneth Walker. He is survived by : his spouse Gracilda "Grace" M. Murphy (Sousa); his brother Jeremiah; his close friend Antonio Sousa; his sons, John "Jay" M. Murphy Jr. (Melissa), Kevin B. Murphy (Kate), Brian J. Murphy (Amy) and Daniel A. Murphy; and his grandchildren, Jane, Katie, Mary Grace, Jeremiah, William, John "Jack" III, Sam, Amelia, Olivia, Lauren and Rory Murphy. He is also survived by his sons and grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, June 18th 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A funeral service was held on Wednesday, June 19th 2024 at 8:30 AM at the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home (142 Centerville Rd, Warwick, RI 02886). A Mass of Christian burial was held on Wednesday, June 19th 2024 at 10:00 AM at the Our Lady of Mercy Church (65 3rd St, East Greenwich, RI 02818).

In lieu of flowers, donations in John's memory to the Fox Point Boys and Girls Club (90 Ives Street, Providence, RI 02906) will be appreciated.
