He was predeceased by: his wife Jeanne Carpenter (Corbett); his parents, Rev. Edward L. Carpenter, Sr. and Bessie Carpenter (Starr); his son Roy Carpenter; and his siblings, Edward, Charles, Joseph Carpenter, Marilyn Miner and Carolyn Dickerson.
He is survived by: his children, David Carpenter (Norma), Elizabeth McPherson and Charles Carpenter; and his grandchildren, Allison Carpenter (Timothy Daugan), Jennifer Clarke, Meredith Mackintosh, Rachel Wilf, Courtland McPherson, Daniel Carpenter and Christopher Carpenter. He is also survived by eight great grandchildren.
