He was predeceased by: his wife Veronica "Ronni" K. Powers (Degnan); his parents, Joseph F. Powers and Marion G. Powers (Seymour); and his brothers, Joseph F. and Richard A. Powers.

He is survived by: his children, Kevin J. Powers (Elaine), James P. Powers (Mary Ellen) and Lisa Azverde (Bob); his grandchildren, Cory Powers (Jill), Ailise Powers, Sean Powers, Maura Powers and Adam Azverde; and his siblings, James "Jim" Powers and Marion Long. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
