He was predeceased by: his parents, Salvatore Barreiro and Jervina Barreiro (Fonseca); and his sibling Americo Barreiro. He is survived by: his son Joseph Barreiro, Jr. (Doris) of Shirley, Massachusetts.; his stepdaughter Kathleen Muldoon of Lincoln; his sisters, Mary Jones of Fairfax, Virginia and Edalina Grenier of Portland, Maine.; his great grandchildren, Kimberly Gomez, Kate Giannini (James), Seamus Muldoon, Jeffrey Culpan, Christopher Culpan (Marla) and Karen Acciardo (Charles); his brothers, Eugene Barreiro, Matthew Barreiro and Arthur Barreiro; and his stepson James Muldoon. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
