He is survived by: his children, Derek Monteiro, Neusa Bernardo, Palmira Monteiro, Marie Carvalho and Dulce Lima; his grandchildren, Destenie, John Jr., Sidnei, Brittanie, Anthony, Robert, Lexie and Oliver; his great grandchildren, Carter, John III, Anthony Jr., Daisy and Scarlett; and his brother Vicente Fortes.
