He was predeceased by: his parents, Francis Sweeney and Svea Sweeney (Anderson); his daughter Terrie Johnson; and his siblings, John, Robert and Francis Sweeney.
He is survived by: his wife Barbara A. Sweeney (Carrier); his children, Donna Scanlon (Joseph), Scott Goss and William J. Sweeney, Jr. (Sydney); and his sisters, Barbara Starkweather, Jane Roy and Carol Knox (Sean). He is also survived by nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
