He was predeceased by: his parents, Audrey Birkes (Trink) and Ray Gene Birkes of Kansas City, MO.. He is survived by: his wife Patricia Currier Birkes of Rumford, RI; his daughters, Kelly Coelho (Corey Coelho) of Rumford, RI, Katharyn Birkes (Michael Purcell) and Alison Birkes (Christian Covarrubias) of East Providence, RI.; his sisters, Sandy Rogers (Rick Rogers), Jan Birkes and Jill Hill of Kansas City, MO.; and his grandchildren, Olivia, Luca, Cole, Natalie and Emma. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and in-laws.
