He was predeceased by: his parents, James F. McCarthy and Mary Ellen McCarthy (O'Rourke); his wife Bridget Mary McCarthy (Brett); his son Sean F. McCarthy; and his sibling Francis J. "Frank" McCarthy. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In memory of Bob's late son Sean, donations can be made to the Gavin Foundation Development Department, 675 East 4th St. PO Box E-15, South Boston, MA 02127.
