Joao R. DeMelo Obituary
We are sad to announce that on January 20, 2025, at the age of 85, Joao R. DeMelo of Cumberland, Rhode Island passed away. Family and friends are welcome to send flowers or leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
As we bid adieu to Joao's earthly form, let us not dwell on the void left in his wake, but rather celebrate the legacy of love and inspiration Joao has bequeathed us. For though he may have departed from our sight, his spirit remains a timeless beacon, guiding loved ones through the labyrinth of life's journey.
He was predeceased by: his wife Maria Luisa DeMelo (Andrade); and his parents, Joseph Rodrigues Melo and Cordelina Melo (Machado). He is survived by: his daughter Luisa Abatecola of East Providence; his grandchildren, Alexander (Briahnna), Dominique, Christopher and Gianna; his great grandchild Lucas; and his siblings, Maria Tome of Vancouver, B. C. and Luis Mello of Pawtucket. He is also survived by several godchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 31st 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home (757 Mendon Rd, Cumberland, RI 02864). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 1st 2025 at 9:00 AM at the same location. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, February 1st 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Our Lady of Fatima Church (1 Fatima Dr, Cumberland, RI 02864).
