He was predeceased by: his wife Rita E. Hamel (Bruneau); his parents, G. Roland Hamel and Cora Hamel (Bergeron); his daughter Arline R. Fontaine; his grandchild Kyle Bradshaw; his great grandchild Travis Gaouette; and his sisters, Rita Mailloux and Jeannette Tellier.
He is survived by: his friends, Reggie and Texaco; his daughters, Renée R. Wickham (John) of Coventry, Joyce A. Bradshaw (Michael) of Coventry, Sheila L. Socha (John) of Coventry, Janice M. Theroux (Matthew) of West Warwick and Denise Hamel; his grandchildren, Crystal Gaouette (Dave), Monique Boulanger (David), Chasity Hogan (Michael), John M. Socha (Courtney Crone), Allyson Holihen (Jared McLaughlin), Aimée Holihen, Adam Wickham and Cady Butson; his great grandchildren, Trevor Gaouette, Amber Gaouette, William Correia IV, Shanna Correia, Thomas McLaughlin, Lorelai Socha, Cameron Boulanger and Kaden Boulanger; and his niece Jackie.
Due to the COVID 19 restrictions in place, René's Mass of Christian Burial and Interment with Military Honors in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Warwick will be private for the family.
