He was predeceased by: his parents, Laverne M. Pears and Mildred Little Pears; his former wife Mary Lou Collingwood Pears; his son Mark Lawrence Pears; and his grandson Timmy Pears.
He is survived by: his wife Renate; his sons, Merle L Pears, Jr. (Joyce Morrow Pears) of Butler and Michael L. Pears (Xin) of Chicora; and his grandchildren, Michael Pears, Jr., Laura Pears Goodale, Mindy Pears Carrington, Ryan Pears, Sarah Pears Cully, Nicholas Pears and Colton Pears. He is also survived by many great grandchildren.
