He is survived by: his wife Janet L. Birkett (Sweder); his children, Philip A. Birkett (Andrea) of York, Gary Birkett (Jennifer Morrison) of York and Susan Sokolow (Jaison) of Scottsdale, AZ; his grandchildren, Morgan Patterson (Brad) of Smithfield, NC, Benjamin Birkett of Baltimore, MD and Riley Sokolow of Scottsdale, AZ; and his great grandchild Everly Patterson. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
