He was predeceased by : his parents, Everett C. Gaines and Louise Gaines (Cobb); his former life partner Janet; and his brothers, Doug and Billy Walter.

He is survived by : his wife Edith; his children, Terry (Karen), Scott (Missy), Billy (Molly), Kim (David) and Audra (Hugh); his nephew Craig; and his great-nieces and great-nephews, Ben (Mel), Joby (Laura) and Sally (Jerry). He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, and 12 Great-grandchildren.
