He was predeceased by: his parents, Benson Piper and LaRue Piper (Rudolph); his stepfather William Thompson Sr.; his brother Leslie Piper; and his stepbrothers, William Thompson Jr. and Samuel Thompson.

He is survived by: his stepsisters, Linda Schmuck and Kimberly Thompson (Keith Kern). He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
