He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph A. Challenger and Blanche Walkinshaw Challenger; his wife Barbara A. Talhelm Challenger; his daughter-in-law Barb Challenger; and his siblings, James, Ronald "Ted" Challenger and Constance Shomper.
He is survived by: his children, Dawn Shiley (Gary) and Bret Challenger (Elizabeth); his grandchildren, Amy Hummel (Corey), Erica Schreffler (Scott), Daniel and Christie Challenger (Mike); his stepgrandchildren, Andrew, Ally, Maria and Nick Johnson; his great grandchildren, Connor and Carson Hummel; his sister-in-law Sarah Challenger; and his close friend Jane Rubendall. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
