He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph C. Messersmith and Adda Jane Messersmith (Dempsey); his wife Judith R. Messersmith (Cimini); and his siblings, Ralph T. Messersmith and Ann Kessler.

He is survived by: his stepchildren, Jerry Cimini of Williamsport and Rachael A. Clements (Dan) of Williamsport; his son Matt Messersmith; his grandchildren, Airren Cimini, Trent Clements, Mikenna Cimini and Jacob Clements; and his brother Michael Messersmith of Jersey Shore.
