He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert Merkle and Alice Merkle (Powers); and his siblings, Jane and Bernard. He is survived by: his wife Beth D. Merkle (Bachman); his children, Scot (Jennifer), Drue (Lynn), Tod, Dale, James Fear and Daniel Fear; and his sister Alice (Frank).
