He was predeceased by: his parents, Jerome J. Schatzel, and Verna Schatzel, Sr. (Webb); his wife Gloria J. Schatzel (Pasquarello); his daughter Kristina Schatzel; and his siblings, Gary, Terry, Fred Schatzel and Sandra Zavec.

He is survived by: his son Jerome Joseph Schatzel, III; his stepson Joseph Karaffa (Lindsey LaCorte); his son-in-law William "Bill" Strein; his grandchildren, Carly and Jovanni Karaffa; and his sisters, Janet Schatzel of Bear Creek and Tonette Schatzel of Bear Creek. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
