He was predeceased by: his parent Fred Howell; his former wife Virginia M. Howell; and his siblings, Hazel Jacques, Blanche Love and Frank Howell.

He is survived by: his parent Pearl Montross Howell; his wife Janet Phillips (Dallas); his sons, Roger G. Howell (Claire Abbott) and Mark D. Howell (Rosali Collier); his grandchildren, Melissa Howell, Julie Howell, Rebecca Ziemak (Michael), Corrie Howell, Rosalie Howell and Everett Howell; his stepdaughters, Jane Herman (Richard), Julie Yadao (Joseph) and Joy Sholtis (Donald); and his stepgrandchildren, Alexis Vaskas, Hailey Sholtis, Richard Herman, David Herman, Riley Jane Herman, Anthony Yadao, Kai Yadao and Sean Yadao.
