She was predeceased by: her parents, Charles Mitsch and Laura Mitsch (Young); her daughter Janet L. Shukausky; and her siblings, Charles Mitsch, Jr. and Mary Jungling.

She is survived by: her husband James P. Smith; her children, James P. Smith, Jr., David A. Smith of Pittsburgh, Thomas E. Smith (Kimberly) of Cleveland, Robert S. Smith and Nancy (Phil Vitovitch); her son-in-law Anthony Shukausky; and her brother George Mitsch of Pittsburgh. She is also survived by 9 Grandchildren and 2 Great-Grandchildren.
