He was predeceased by: his parents, Raymond Werkmeister and Bertha Watten Werkmeister; and his siblings, Donald, Earl, Ray, Walter and Norma Jean.

He is survived by: his children, Allen R. "Skip" Werkmeister (Nancy), Dr. James R. Werkmeister (Diana), John P. Werkmeister (Lorrie), Sally L. Werkmeister and Patricia A. Werkmeister; his grandchildren, Alaina, Patrick, James Jr. (Megan), Megan, Joshua (Myah), Erin Anderson (James), Julia, Alex (Katie) and Michael "Mickey" Carter; and his great grandchildren, Shelby, Myra, Eliza and Benjamin.
