He was predeceased by: his wife Sherry R. Sands (Gillmor); his parents, Roy Sands and Viola Sands (Bush); his son Matthew Sands; and his brother Brooke Sands.

He is survived by: his son Brad Sands of Santa Monica, CA; his grandsons, Cooper and Crosby Sands; and his sisters, Virginia Gerhard, Mary Fisher (Charles) and Kathleen Thomason (Kenneth).

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Special Olympics.
