He was predeceased by: his wife Mary C. "Connie" Richer Pawling; his parents, Lester Pawling and Winifred Walpole Pawling; and his siblings, Jeanne Canestra, Harold Pawling, Margaret Reeves, James Pawling and Dorothy Pawling.

He is survived by: his children, Dorothy McDonnell (Robert) of West Grove, PA, Anne Marie Madden (Michael) of Downingtown, Edward M. Pawling (Tammy) of Worton, Daniel J. Pawling (Patricia) of Honey Brook, Christopher Pawling (Jennifer) of Honey Brook and Gerald Pawling (Stacey) of Cochranville, PA. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and "almost" five great grandchildren.
