He was predeceased by: his father Ernest Robert Wardius; and his brother Dr. Ernest Robert "Rob" Wardius, Jr.. He is survived by: his wife Joyce Wardius; his mother Patricia Wardius; his children, Dr. Stephanie Wardius (Dennis Kendall, Jr.) and Bryan Wardius (Amanda Campbell); his siblings, Sherri Ward (Marc), Dr. Jay Wardius (Jennifer) and Dr. Patricia Wardius (June Jennings); his nephew Marc Ward (Kaitlyn); and his niece Keli Fetterman (Eric). He is also survived by many other nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Alternatively, donations may be made to Legos for Liv, a local charity formed by one of Gary and Joyce's friends that supports children at A.I. Dupont Nemours Hospital.
