He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas Whalen and Jean Whalen. He is survived by: his wife Kimberly K. Whalen (Null); his sons, Thomas Whalen, Jr. of Maine, Andrew Whalen of Maine and Ryan Whalen of Maine; his stepchildren, Nicole Forsythe of South Mountain and William Forsythe of South Mountain; and his siblings, Sandy Moxley, Ronald Whalen and John Whalen. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
