He was predeceased by: his parents, George of Washington and Mary A. Gates (Tarman); his son Stanley E. Gates, Jr.; and his siblings, Mae Powell, Luvella Freeman, Loretta McFerren, Molly Harbaugh, Ardella Moats, George Gates, Leonard Gates and Taylor Gates.
He is survived by: his wife Donna Mae Gates (Wagaman); his children, Dusty L. Gates of Waynesboro, Jody R. Gates of Red Lion, PA and Shannon W. Gates of Mont Alto, PA; and his grandson Nickalus W. Gates. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
