He was predeceased by: his parent Rufus E.; his wife Helen Smith; his siblings, Mary Creager, Amy Royer and Lloyd Smith; his niece Shirley Creager; and his nephew Llewellyn Smith.
He is survived by: his parent Anna Mae Smith (Eigenbrode); his children, Barbara Smith and Sanford A. Smith; his grandchildren, Sarah Smith, Jamie Ensley and Joshua Smith; and his nieces and nephews, Daniel Creager, Steve Morrow, Jean Smith and Patricia Shoemaker.
