He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry C. Poper and Ruth Poper (Stottlemyer); his son James C. Poper, Jr.; and his siblings, Harriett Witherspoon, Shirley King and David Poper.

He is survived by: his wife Wanda Mae Poper (Myers); his daughter Christine K. Heibeck (Wayne) of Waynesboro; his grandsons, Andrew Heibeck and Nathan Heibeck; his stepgrandchildren, Chasity Bechtel and Kyle Shriner; his daughter-in-law Becky; and his sister Ester Poper. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
