He was predeceased by: his father Joseph Hale; his wife Gene Rebecca Hale (Phelps); his son James A. Hale, Jr.; and his sister Nancy Grove. He is survived by: his daughter-in-law Lois M. Hale of Centerville, VA; and his grandchildren, Alexander Hale and Noelle Hale. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
