He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Hatfield and Goldie Hatfield (Bigham); his son Michael Douglas Hatfield; and his brother Donald B. Hatfield. He is survived by: his wife Nancy; his children, Mark David Hatfield of Waynesboro, Jeffrey Allen Hatfield (Sharon) of Waynesboro and Michelle Dawn Carter (John); and his grandchildren, Nicole, Douglas Carter, Mark Hatfield, Jr., Noah Hatfield and Ozzy Hatfield. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
