He was predeceased by: his parents, Howard E. Smith and Mae Smith (Cline); his son Darryl L. Smith; his daughter-in-law Cynthia L. "Cindy" Smith; and his siblings, Howard E. Smith, Jr., Charles R. Smith and Mary C. Eck.
He is survived by: his wife H. Darlene Smith (Barnhart); his children, Susan C. Martin (Gary) of Chambersburg and H. Alan Smith of Waynesboro; his grandson Shaun M. Martin; his stepgranddaughters, Tracye R. McKenzie (Andre) of Greencastle, PA and Mandy L. Bakner (Gene) of Waynesboro; his stepgreat-grandchildren, Andre McKenzie, Jr. (Rebecca), Morgynn McKenzie, Chloe McKenzie, Abigayle Bakner and Jarrett Bakner; and his great great grandchildren, Macyn, Emery and Harper McKenzie. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
