He is survived by: his mother Pauline Evelyn Kissel Short (Walker); and his siblings, Julius Kissel (Wanda) of Shippensburg, PA, Michael Kissel (Deborah) of Chambersburg, Sharon Kissel Webster of Waynesboro, Thomas Kissel of Fayetteville and Lisa Kissel Bakner (Brian) of Mont Alto. He is also survived by nieces and nephews as well as a host of extended family and dear friends.

After Avant Garde closed during the pandemic, Nick continued to coach his students at the Hollywood Ballroom in Silver Spring, MD.
