He was predeceased by: his parents, Wilbur "Tom" Stewart and Gladys McDough Stewart; his wife Virginia Alice Wier; and his sisters, Marjorie Travis and Sarah "Sally" McConnell.
He is survived by: his sister Patty McConnell (Charles); his daughters, Vickie Simms (Dave), Cindy Phillips and Alice Simms (Ray); his grandchildren, David Simms Jr., Jarrit Simms, Jessica Simms, Matthew Phillips, Candace Phillip, Justin Simms and Marissa Simms; and his close friend Vickie Byers. He is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren.
