He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward A. Gutekunst and Catherine A. Gutekunst (Murray); and his siblings, Francis James Gutekunst (Jim) and Loretta A. Marchione. He is survived by: his wife Kathleen Gutekunst (Klein); his children, Edward Gutekunst, Andrew Gutekunst and Carol Lynn Riker; his son-in-law William Riker; and his grandchildren, Liam Riker and Keira Riker.
