He was predeceased by: his son Sam Shafer. He is survived by: his wife Dotti; his sons, Andrew (Stephanie) and Doug (Theresa); his daughter-in-law Alexis (Sam); his sister Klida Shank (Paul); and his grandchildren, Mason, Mila, Zoey, Ryder and Eva. He is also survived by many other family members and friends.
