Shirley E Witmer Obituary
Shirley E. Witmer, 88, of Unionville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 16, 2023, while surrounded by the love of her family. Born on September 24, 1935, at home in Bellefonte, she was the daughter of the late Edward C. and Clara B. (Irwin) Witmer, Sr.
Shirley attended the Bellefonte School District. She worked at Hanover Foods, starting at the Oak Hall Plant and eventually becoming a Lead person for the chip line at the Centre Hall Plant. She retired after more than 30 years of service with Hanover Foods. She just couldn't stand the idleness of retirement, so she began working at McDonald's in Milesburg, and continued there until she decided to finally retire to spend more time with her family.
Shirley was a hard worker. She was known to be slightly strong-willed and determined, but a kind soul. She loved to spend her spare time reading and doing various puzzles, especially sudoku and crosswords. You could always depend on her for anything. She loved her family beyond measure and believed in living responsibly. She will be cherished for years to come in the memories of all those that knew her.
Shirley is survived by her son, Leslie E. Witmer of Howard; three daughters, Barbara A. Phillips of Mt. Eagle, Kathy J. Witmer and her significant other, Peter Mali, of Yarnell, and Kimberly S. Schindler and her significant other, Robert Ritter, of Milesburg; 13 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; two great grandchildren on the way; her sister, Nancy Emel of Milesburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by two sons, David A. Witmer and Richard W. "Dick" Witmer; one grandson, Shane Phillips; four brothers, Edward Witmer, Jr, Jay Witmer, Robert Witmer, and Gerald Watson; and her sister, Susan Jodon.
Following Shirley's wishes, there will be no services at this time. She will be laid to rest at Schenk's Cemetery in Howard at the discretion of the family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, Inc in Milesburg.
