He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard Shimmel and Zola Shimmel (Parks); his son Stanley I. Shimmel; and his siblings, Emily Bryan, JoAnne Wisor, Lola Grenell and Edmond Shimmel.
He is survived by: his wife Gaynell I. Johnson; his children, Kathy Eckberg (Carl) of DuBois, PA and David R. Shimmel (Roberta) of Houtzdale, PA; his sister Berva Damm of Hollidaysburg, PA; and his grandchildren, Timothy, Allison, Shawn and Amy. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren.
