He was predeceased by: his parents, Van A. Chaapel and Alice Chaapel (Smithgall); his daughter Edith Ann Moser; and his siblings, Dean Chaapel and Helen Hudson.
He is survived by: his wife Phyllis E. Flick; his children, Robert V. Chaapel Jr. (Carol) and Debra Wolfe (Richard); his grandchildren, Robert V. E. Chaapel (Angela), Kelly Way (Adam), Matthew Tarin (Molly), Adam Tarin (Lucille), Joshua Tarin, Amy Machesic (Dan) and Alexa Bolt (Christopher); his great grandchildren, Jayden and Ava Chaapel; his grandchildren, Kylie Buck, Morgan, Adalyn Way, Lyla, Greta, Maya Tarin, Cameron Tarin, Maxwell, Lumen Machesic and Tucker Bolt; and his brother Donald W. Chaapel (Annette).
