It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Merle Chaapel (Troy, Pennsylvania), born in Elmira, New York, who passed away on July 22, 2019, at the age of 71, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy Chaapel and Alma Chaapel (Colton); and his brothers, Russell, Martin and Roy Jr..
He is survived by: his sister Joanna Chapman; his wife Judy Chaapel; his children, Kimberly Chaapel and Ryan Chaapel (Danika) of Troy; his grandchildren, Jonathan and Olivia Chaapel; his stepgrandchildren, Takoda and Walker Kelley; and his brothers, Richard Chaapel of Elmira, NY, Ernest Chaapel (Norma) of Coryland and Paul "Pappy" Chaapel of Troy. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
