He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Bower and Dorothy Bower Strouse (Saar); and his siblings, Richard, Robert Bower and Joan Bower Kennedy.
He is survived by: his wife Cynthia Mengel Bower; his children, James W. Bower Jr. (Kirstie) of Decorah, Michael G. Bower (Kim Felty) of Selinsgrove and Christy Gibson (Rab Donaldson) of Dunedin, Fla.; his grandchildren, Lindsey, Brittany, Jonathan, Nicole, Gwyn, Micah, Rachel and Hailey; his brother Joe Bower (Judy) of Pottsville; and his caregivers, Brenda, Cheryl, Dawn, Francine, Joy, Kathie, Kelsey, Mary Ellen and Sue. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
