He was predeceased by: his spouse Marjorie A. "Shirley" Updike; his parents, James Updike and Pearl Updike (Gunsallus); and his brother Edward. He is survived by: his children, Lisa Scheitrum of McAdoo, Ralph J. Updike (Jacqueline) of Virginia, Steve L. Updike (Sally) of McAdoo and Mark W. Updike of Tamaqua; his sister Charlene Updike; his sister-in-law Vickie Carey (Philip); his grandchildren, Cassaundra Ameel of Pittsburgh, Steve W Updike, Lauren Mayer of Philadelphia, Brittany Himmelreich of Cressona, Ian Updike of Virginia, Michelle Myers of Williamsport, David Updike of McAdoo, Allison Updike of Virginia and Brandon Updike of Hazleton; and his great grandchildren, Brady and Peyton Himmelreich. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
