He is survived by: his children, Richard Newton Jr. (Randy), William Newton (April) and Catharine Schmidt (Brian); his sister Margaret Newton of Pennsylvania; his half-sister Barbara Nickel of North Carolina; and his grandchildren, Edward Newton, Jenna Newton, Jeffrey Newton, Gunnar Newton, Hannah Schmidt Furman, Natalie Schmidt, William Schmidt and Joshua Schmidt. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
