He is survived by: his sister Elizabeth Heckman; his nieces and nephews, Tammy McIntire (Kevin), Mikki Heckman (Theresa), Todd Heckman (Teresa), Kelly Heckman, Mark Ruggieri (Rose), Brian Ruggieri (Pam), Keith Ruggieri (Linda), Maria Chaillet and Laura Ruggieri; his stepson Randy Zimmer; and his close friends, Marianna and Mathias Madsen.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Joseph's name to the VA association Blind Rehabilitation Services.
