He was predeceased by: his parents, Paul W. Gerhard and Anna Jane Gerhard (Zwally); his siblings, Greg Gerhard and Paula Sue Kemper; and his brother-in-law Clarence Kemper, Jr..
He is survived by: his wife Sandra M. (Hackman); his daughters, Ellen (Ryan Garber) of Mt. Joy and Maureen (Dustin Horning) of Denver; his grandchildren, Megan, Hunter, McKenna Garber, Dane, Connor and Logan Horning; and his siblings, Pam (Mike Steffy) of Lititz and Steve (Bonnie). He is also survived by seven nieces and nephews.
