He was predeceased by: his parents, Elmer W. Groff and Leah Groff (Brubaker); his wife Ruth Ann Weaver; his daughter Christine; his grandson Justin; his brother Ernest; and his siblings-in-law, Raymond Horst and Mary Ann Groff.
He is survived by: his children, J. Merlin (Lois Ann), NJ, Elwood David (Lillian), Naomi (James K. Weaver) of Jonestown, Lorene (Curtis Miller) of Hutchinson, KS and Ruth Elaine Groff; and his siblings, Lewis B. Groff of New Holland and Eleanor Horst of Richland.
