He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert E. Newell and Agnes Newell; his grandmother Helen Akerman; his siblings, Robert Newell, Lorna Brentzel and Nancy Schade; his niece Kathy Newell; and his great-niece Kelly Brentzel.

He is survived by: his wife Carole Jones Newell; his daughter April Newell Storm; his son-in-law Justin J. Storm; his grandsons, Sage and Fisher Newell Storm; and his nieces and nephews, Terry Newell, Craig Brentzel, David Schade, Cheryl Eiras, Barbra Jo Iverson and Becky Schade. He is also survived by his wife, daughter, son-in-law, two grandsons, nieces and nephews.
