He was predeceased by: his parents, Virgil Emswiler, Sr. and Dorothy (Edinger); and his brother Bill. He is survived by: his wife Joan Emswiler (Finkbiner); his stepfather Homer Bieber; his children, Rebecca George (Steve Monteleone) and Kevin Emswiler (Cathy); his grandsons, Richard Saylor III and Kevin Emswiler Jr.; his great grandchild Riley Emswiler; and his brother-in-law Ralph Finkbiner (Karen).
