He was predeceased by: his wife Betty Jane; his parents, Andrew Howat and Sophia Howat; and his brother Walter. He is survived by: his children, James Howat Jr. and Leslie Howat Adams (H. Carlton Adams III); his grandsons, Christopher Adams (Jennifer) and Gregory Adams (Kimberly); his great grandchildren, Harry, James, Bennett and Riley; and his sister Charlotte Fairman (Bill).
